PHS Band Update 10/21/18

Hello Band Families:

Friday night was a very nice farewell to our Seniors, and a great final home-game performance for the year. Senior Posters are in the band office for those who did not pick them up already.

Thank you so much to everyone who volunteered Saturday at the UCM Festival of Champions. Your students were very impressive, and gave a really strong performance in a very competitive class. They were a credit to PHS both on and off the field.

Can you believe Marching Season is over already? So many of you gave so much time and talent to our marching band, uniforms, props, truck driving, plumes, pushing equipment to the field, water, hospitality… it does take a village. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Uniforms were collected last night, but if you have any odd gauntlets, extra hats, or other components, please return them to school along with marching instruments and flip folders. You may keep gloves, shoes and socks.

Tuesday Oct 23 – Symphonic season kicks off with Jazz Band and Campus Band Concert at PHS. Please watch for an email on call times and dress code requirements.

Monday Nov 19th is Cappuccino Night – our big Jazz Band fundraiser, and is next major event on the calendar – table reservations, dinner reservation and dessert donation signups will be posted this week. This is a very popular event, and last year we had standing room only, so table reservations are encouraged. There will be a special guest trio this year, so you will want to be sure to get a great seat!

Directors’ Announcements:

Thank you for everyone’s support this fall. I thoroughly enjoy my first marching season as a Panther and I look forward to the years to come. Before we look forward we need to make sure we take inventory of everything. Please help us by reminding students to turn in any flip folders, uniform parts, or marching instruments. One of our main goals this week is to get everything back in storage.

All-District auditions on November 3 are rapidly approaching. The auditions times are now posted outside of the band room. Please help us by encouraging students to set aside time every day to prepare. Students are encouraged to ask directors for help, we will try to make as much time available as possible over the next two weeks.

  • October 22 – practice during class
  • October 23 – Jazz Band and Campus Band concert
  • October 24 – practice during class

Volunteer Opportunities!

Cappuccino Night – Monday November 19th, and will include a silent auction. We will be selling ads in the program, Senior shout outs and looking for donations for the auction from businesses you own, or frequent. Restaurant gift cards, Event tickets, Professional Services, Décor Items all make great auction items. Please e-mail Dawn Cornelius with questions Dawn_Cornelius@sbcglobal.net.

As always, we appreciate your gift of time and talents, and your students appreciate all you do to make our Band program across both campuses such a high-quality experience. The extra things you enable make a huge difference to your students. Everyone has something to offer, and it does take a village to raise a band

Remember to check Facebook – “Park Hill South Bands”, or our home page “www.phsouthband.com” for photos, updates and news. As always, please feel free to call or email me with questions or suggestions.
