The Park Hill South Marching Band is made of two groups: Parade Marching Band and a Competitive Marching Band. The Parade Band performs at community parades include Parkville Days Parade and Riverside’s Riverfest Parade (which is usually also the PHS Homecoming Parade).
The Competitive Marching Band performs at PHS Home football games and attends local marching competitions to perform a field show highlighting musical, visual, rhythm and conducting skills. The membership in this group by audition only.
The Competitive Marching Band performs at PHS Home football games and attends local marching competitions to perform a field show highlighting musical, visual, rhythm and conducting skills. Competitive Band students are expected to attend all performances and required rehearsals. Parade Marching Band students are students who are not able to make the full commitment to the marching band schedule or have been designated as an alternate due to music check-off, knowledge of drill or injury.
This year, due to the nature of the show, there is very little difference between these two groups. Students participating in summer marching band have the first opportunity to be in competitive marching band by completing their sequence sheets, excellent attendance, music play-off and demonstration knowledge of their assigned drill spot. Campus Band is the concert band class for ALL FRESHMEN in band meeting every other day on the opposite day as the Marching Band during school. Some of our Campus Band members have been invited to also take the Marching Band class. If a student can only participate in one class they must only take Campus Band.
