Marching Band Weekly Update 08/19/18

Hello Band Families:

What a busy weekend, with the football Jamboree and Scrimmage, and the Parkville Days Parade. It is lovely to see the comradery and support from the Dance team, Football team and Cheer Squad. It’s also fun to see the band march on our home field – thank you to all the parents and families who emailed and advocated, along with the football parents, to make this a reality.

The Parade was terrific, and thank you to our parent volunteers for making sure your students were safe and hydrated. Your students were so wonderful, marching and playing the whole route to entertain the crowd.

Please come and watch rehearsal on Tuesday evening, at the District stadium. It is a great way to meet other parents and watch the progress Mr. Gillespie and his team are making with your students.

Friday night is our first at-home game, at Preston Field. Please note that there is an admission fee for the games. Remember to wear your spirit wear, and be there early for pre-game, and stay for the half-time show.

Directors’ Announcements:

Thank you to everyone who came out this weekend! I would especially like to extend my gratitude to everyone who volunteered, it would have not been possible without you.

We have another busy week ahead. Please help us by reminding students that they will be practicing during the school day. This includes athletic shoes, water bottles, music, instruments, and rank vests. One main objective for this week is for every student to have the national anthem memorised, please encourage your student that the earlier they complete this task, the less stressful it becomes.

Once again with this being my first year, I’m not sure how long the football game will take. Total game time can change drastically based on the style of offense being used. The staff is aware that the temperature is going to increase as the week progresses. We will monitor the weather and make a decision by Thursday if we will be wearing the full uniform. Thank you for your patience and understanding. For anyone wondering about shoes or gloves, the order was placed and we’re anticipating delivery sometime early this week. Thank you for all your support!

Volunteer Opportunities!

We still have several openings for volunteers – two of which are urgent:

Truck Driver(s) – We need another truck driver to help drive the truck with the percussion equipment, drum major towers, water and other rehearsal needs. We especially need someone this Tuesday. The job entails picking up the truck in Parkville, driving to PHS, then to the field or competition and back, then returning the truck. For more details, please call or e-mail Lisa Uhrmacher. Here is the sign up link:

Water Committee – We are still looking for a Chair, and some additional volunteers to coordinate the preparation and loading of water coolers and water bottles for rehearsals, games and contests. We have several volunteers, we need a few more and a person to coordinate the effort. If you can volunteer for water Friday night at the game, please email Lisa Uhrmacher to put you on the volunteer list, or if you can help throughout the season.

As always, we appreciate your gift of time and talents, and your students appreciate all you do to make our Band program across both campuses such a high-quality experience. The extra things you enable make a huge difference to your students. Everyone has something to offer, and it does take a village to raise a band

Remember to check Facebook – “Park Hill South Bands”, or our home page “” for photos, updates and news. As always, please feel free to call or email me with questions or suggestions.
