Marching Band Weekly Update 07/30/18

Hello Band Families:

The first week of band camp is complete, and I have heard nothing but wonderful feedback. You have amazing students with real dedication. This week is spirit week, so keep your eyes open on Facebook for some fun photos of each theme. Here are a few quick notes for this week:

Uniform fitting

I want to thank each of you who came to help fit uniforms last Thursday.  Wednesday night we were seriously short of volunteers, but after Mr. Gillespie put out a last minute request for additional help you stepped up to the task in force!  What a great group of people!  I truly apologize to those who went home without a job to do.  Being the day of a job this large, I did not have time to reply to all your emails forwarded to me on Wednesday morning.  If you will either sign up with us i

n the future on Signup Genius, or state that you are taking time off work to join us, you will be given top priority (or told ahead if we already have enough help).  We appreciate you so much and don’t want this to happen again.

Just a reminder, DO NOT CUT bibbers (uniform pants) to adjust length, please hem instead.  If you need help with that let us know.  Also if you have experience with hemming pants we are always looking for people who can hem!

Band Camp Breakfast/Ice/Fruit – Thank you and this weeks needs

Thank you for all the donations.  Volunteers are always needed to set-up and clean-up, it’s a great way to meet other band families. We could still use some mini muffins, or pastries but we have PLENTY of pop-tarts, thank you.

Fruit Break buffet for Band Camp


Fresh Fruit Break – Mr. Gillespie has also started a new tradition of a fruit break in the second week of band camp, and it is a HUGE hit with your students. We will need more than originally planned for, as your students love it. We ask for bananas, sliced watermelon, apples or sliced cantaloupe for a 10 am break. No grapes please as we do have student allergies to accommodate.  Please place these items in disposable containers, or named plastic containers to make it easier for the volunteers. Kristin will have coolers available so you can drop off fruit when you drop off your students! You can also bring fresh fruit at 9.45 and even stay to help setup.  We do need help to set up the break at 9.45 each morning in the parking lot where the students are marching! Ice – Thank you again for the ice. This week looks a bit cooler, but the ice is much appreciated. Please leave ice at the back of the band room in the large coolers provided.  There are still a few open slots this week.  The sign-up is below

Formal Band Photo – This Friday, Aug 3 at 1.30 pm

Please remind your student to bring their uniform and marching shoes for the photo.

Band Potluck and Performance – This Friday, Aug 3 at 6 pm, setup at 5.30 pm, Performance at 7pm

Mark your calendars for the annual band potluck, this Friday at 6pm at PHS, in the Commons. PHS Band has legendary potlucks, and you don’t want to miss out!  In addition to great food, families will have the opportunity to pay their second band payment, confirm or correct the email address they’d like to use for Band communications, and optionally order order PHS Band Spiritwear.

At 7 pm your students will share all the progress from band camp these two weeks. Each section has a food genre assigned:

Battery and Guard: Salad

Front Ensemble and Woodwinds: Entrée

Brass: Vegetable/Side

Paper Goods, Drinks: provided by PIMB

Dessert Donations requested

Here is the sign-up for volunteering and dessert donations, just a couple of slots still open for setup, serving and clean up, and a couple for desserts.


The excused absence request form is posted on the band website, and you can digitally complete and submit right from the site. Thank you Sindie Pugsley for your digital wizardry.

As noted, the Park Hill School District has an opt-out image policy, so if you do not want your student’s image posted on the web or our the Band’s social media sites, please fill out the form at registration. You can also respond to this message in the interim.
