Marching Band Weekly Update 7/23/18

Hello Band Families:

Normally you would receive this email on a Sunday, but with orientation yesterday this week’s email is delayed. It was lovely to see so many of you yesterday, to meet Mr. Gillespie in person and to hear his vision for the program. Here are a few quick notes for this week:

Uniform fitting – July 26, 1 – 4 pm at PHS

Reminder to join Mary-Jane Stone on July 26 between 1 and 4 pm in the choir room, when we will fit marching band for the season. The more the merrier, no experience required. Please email Mary-Jane Stone at Sign up below:

If you are able to help with HEMMING over the next few weeks, we need your help, please contact Mary-Jane! Just a reminder, DO NOT CUT bibbers to adjust length, please hem instead.

Band Camp Breakfast/Ice/Fruit – Please donate!

Band camp started today, and once again, PIMB is sponsoring a “grab & go” breakfast bar for our students. Morning rehearsal comes early, and many students forget to eat, so we offer a quick grab & go breakfast. Requests include pop tarts, muffins, juice boxes, and granola bars. Volunteers are also needed to set-up and clean-up, it’s a great way to meet other band families.

Fresh Fruit Break – Mr. Gillespie has also started a new tradition of a fruit break in the second week of band camp. We ask for bananas, sliced watermelon, apples, sliced cantaloupe for a 10 am break. Please place these items in disposable containers to make it easier for the volunteers. We also need help to set up the break at 9.45 each morning.

A sign-up sheet for both is below, and donations may be left in the band office/library. Fresh fruit should be delivered each day

Ice – In order to keep your students hydrated, we ask for ice donations each morning of band camp, as we are unable to access school ice machines. Please leave ice at the back of the band room in the large coolers provided.  A sign-up is below

Band Potluck – Aug 3

Mark your calendars for the annual band potluck, more details to come, but here is a sign-up for volunteering and dessert donation.  Please bring items according to your students instrument:

  • Battery and Guard: Salad
  • Front ensemble and Woodwinds: Entree
  • Brass: Vegetable/side

In addition to the section food assignments, dessert is an additional donation request (see sign-up below):


The Excused Absence Request form is now available on our website.   We are working on posting PDFs of other forms (e.g. Field trip) on the band website. The link to the required MHSAA physical form is:

As always, we appreciate your gift of time and talents, and your students appreciate all you do to make our Band program across both campuses such a high-quality program. The extra things you enable make a huge difference to your students. Everyone has something to offer, and it does take a village to raise a band
