PHS Band Update 07192020

Hello,

Thank you to everyone who completed the uniform sizing process. This was a big step in helping us move forward with our new uniforms.

Last week we had a meeting with the Park Hill South Administration about the best way to move forward in the coming weeks. The conversation is ongoing and we’re continuing to develop the best plan possible to keep our students safe. We agreed that for the near future it is best practice to spend the majority of our time as a band program outdoors. Because of this, we will be amending our summer camp schedule.

July 31 8:00am to 12:00pm – Leadership only.

August 3 8:00am to 12:00pm –  Color Guard, Percussion, Leadership, and all First Year Members.

August 4 8:00am to 12:00pm – Color Guard, Percussion, and Woodwinds

August 5 8:00am to 12:00pm – Color Guard, Percussion, and Brass

August 6 8:00am to 12:00pm – Color Guard, Percussion, and Woodwinds

August 7 8:00am to 12:00pm – Color Guard, Percussion, and Brass

August 10 8:00am to 12:00pm – Full Band (Everyone)

August 11 8:00am to 12:00pm – Full Band

August 12 8:00am to 12:00pm – Full Band

August 13 8:00am to 12:00pm – Full Band

Next week’s email will be more specific in regards to policy, but please know this years’ experience will look different. We have designed our show and practice routine to remain 6ft apart or wider at all times. We will not play our instruments indoors for the near future, but we will take time during this camp to teach our new class routine for when school starts. We will be using the auditorium as a home base for when weather does not permit us to go outside. Every student will have an assignment seat for the year that exceeds current district policy in regards to distance from the next band member. By bringing in small groups the first week of our camp we will train our students how to best execute this process in hopes that everything will run smoothly once the full group is together the second week. Please remember for camp we will be spending the vast majority of our time outside. Please know the conversation is ongoing to developing the safest plan possible for our students for the entire school year. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Mr. Andrew Gillespie
